A Volkswagen tyre with AirStop self-sealing technology

AirStop® Tyres

Book a Service

Put your trust in AirStop® tyres and their sealing technology, which closes small punctures the moment they happen — so a nail, screw or stone doesn't leave you stranded.

Sealed in Seconds

Drive over a sharp stone, a nail or a piece of glass and an ordinary tyre goes flat. An AirStop tyre carries a viscous compound on its inner face that seals punctures of up to 5 mm across, so the tyre holds its pressure and you can drive calmly on to the nearest workshop.

  • Seals punctures up to 5 mm in diameter caused by foreign objects.
  • The tyre keeps its pressure — no sudden loss, no blow-out.
  • Mounts on any standard rim, with no extra parts required.

The Technology Behind AirStop® Tyres

1

A sealing layer inside the tyre

The inner face of the tread is coated with a thick, permanently tacky sealing compound. It stays in place and stays flexible for the life of the tyre.

2

A foreign object is sealed straight away

When a nail or a shard of glass punches through the tread, the compound wraps around it and closes the gap. No air escapes and the pressure barely moves.

3

The puncture channel closes

If the object works its way out, the compound is pulled into the hole behind it and seals the channel. The tyre holds pressure and you keep driving.

Your Benefits

No wheel change at the side of the road, more room in the boot and the same handling as a standard tyre: self-sealing tyres are a practical choice for long distances and rough roads.

  • No loss of pressure — punctures up to 5 mm across are sealed the moment they happen.
  • Works more than once — protection holds up even with several small punctures.
  • No roadside wheel change — drive on to the nearest workshop instead of stopping to fit the spare.
  • Unchanged handling — speed, steering and ride comfort feel the same after a puncture.
  • Saves space and weight — no spare wheel means more luggage room and slightly lower fuel use.
  • Guards the casing — sealing the hole helps keep water out and the steel belt from rusting.
  • Fits normal rims — AirStop tyres mount on any standard wheel, with no extra parts.

Next Stop: Autohaus Namibia

A sealed puncture lets you keep driving, but it isn't a permanent repair. Bring the car in as soon as you can — our technicians will check the tyre and advise you. If a steel or alloy rim has been scuffed at the same time, small scratches can often be treated rather than the rim replaced.

A Clever Combination

AirStop® technology is also built into Volkswagen Genuine +Tyres — tyres developed and tested specifically for your model. Together they give you a more carefree drive plus the comfort, grip and quality of a tyre matched to the car. Our Recommendation

Whether you run AirStop® or standard tyres, check them once or twice a month and before any long trip. Watch for punctures or a slow loss of pressure, and treat unusual noises, vibration or a change in the way the car drives as a sign to have the tyres looked at. Head to the nearest workshop as soon as you can.

FAQ on AirStop® Tyres

What is special about AirStop® tyres?

The inside of the tyre carries a viscous sealing compound that closes punctures of up to 5 mm caused by nails, screws or glass. The tyre keeps its pressure, so a puncture no longer means a flat.

How does AirStop® work?

When a foreign object pierces the tread, the sealing compound immediately flows around it and blocks the opening. If the object falls out again, the compound is drawn into the puncture channel and seals it. Either way, no air escapes.

Do I need special rims or extra parts?

No. AirStop tyres fit on any standard rim and need no additional hardware. We do recommend running them with a tyre-pressure monitoring system so you still notice a larger puncture the sealant cannot close.

Do I still have to get the tyre changed after a puncture?

Yes. The seal lets you drive on safely, but it is not a permanent repair. Bring the car to Autohaus Namibia so the tyre can be inspected and replaced — a sealed puncture is not repairable in the long term.
