Glass and Light
Book a ServiceA clear windscreen and working lights protect you and everyone else on the road. Here is how we handle glass repairs, and the parts behind your Volkswagen’s windscreen and lighting.
Glass Repair Service
The windscreen adds to the strength of the body and holds the passenger airbag in place, so even minor damage matters. A small stone chip can often be sealed with resin if it is caught early; once it spreads, the windscreen has to be replaced with Volkswagen Genuine glass.
- Chips repaired early with a clear resin — quick, and cheaper than a new screen.
- Full replacements use Volkswagen Genuine laminated glass.
- Windscreen cameras for lane keeping and emergency braking are recalibrated after a replacement.

Windscreen and Lighting
From replacement bulbs and LED headlight units to wiper blades and screenwash — the parts that keep your view clear and keep you visible to others.
Lighting You Can Add
Beyond repairs, Volkswagen Accessories offers lighting upgrades for some models — dynamic turn signals that sweep in the direction you are turning, LED tail-light clusters and interior ambient lighting.

Can a small stone chip turn into a full crack?
Yes. A chip in the outer layer of the glass can spread over time as the windscreen flexes and expands and contracts with temperature — which is why it is worth dealing with early.
When is it unsafe to keep driving with a chip?
If the chip is in the driver’s field of vision, is within about 10 cm of the edge of the windscreen, or is larger than roughly a coin, the windscreen should be replaced rather than repaired and the car should not be driven far in the meantime.
Repair or replace?
A chip smaller than about 5 mm, more than 10 cm from the edge and outside the driver’s line of sight can usually be sealed with resin. Anything larger or badly placed needs a new windscreen.
Can I repair a windscreen myself?
No. The windscreen contributes to the strength of the body and backs up the airbags, so glass work is a job for a trained fitter with the correct materials.
Are scratches on the windscreen a problem?
Yes. Scratches scatter light and cause glare from oncoming headlights and the low sun, which is tiring and can be dangerous at night.
What is the difference between LED and halogen headlights?
LEDs use less power, last much longer and can be split into individually controlled segments, which allows adaptive high beam that stays on without dazzling other drivers.
Do LED headlights get dimmer with age?
Very little. LED output stays close to new for the life of the unit, unlike a halogen bulb which fades gradually.
How is headlight aim set?
The load-levelling dial next to the steering wheel sets the basic height for a loaded car. Correct aim is checked with workshop beam-setting equipment, and cars with a windscreen camera need that camera recalibrated after any glass change.
