Autohaus Namibia can check whether your starter battery still holds enough charge and, if it does not, supply and fit the correct replacement. On models with a battery-management system the new battery is coded to the car so the charging system treats it correctly.

Starter Batteries for Your Volkswagen
Different Volkswagen models take different starter batteries, depending on whether the car has a start/stop system and how much electrical equipment it carries. These are the types we fit.
Returning Old Batteries
Whenever we fit a replacement, Autohaus Namibia takes your old starter battery back and passes it on for proper recycling. Lead-acid batteries contain lead and sulphuric acid and must never be put in household waste or left in the environment. If you ever replace a battery yourself, drop the old one at Autohaus Namibia or any battery retailer.

When should the battery be replaced?
There is no fixed interval — it depends on the climate, the length of your journeys and how much electrical equipment the car runs. Replace the battery if the battery warning light comes on, if starting is slow or laboured, if the case is cracked or the terminals are corroded, or if the built-in charge indicator ("magic eye") looks light or clear rather than dark. Heat is hard on batteries, so in most of Namibia it is worth having the battery load-tested once a year.
Which starter battery does my Volkswagen need?
It depends on whether the car has start/stop and how much power it draws — EFB/EFB+, AGM or lead-calcium. Autohaus Namibia identifies the correct type from your VIN. Fitting the wrong type causes charging and electrical problems.
Why does a battery lose capacity over time?
Every time the battery is discharged, lead-sulphate crystals form on the plates. Over many cycles these build up permanently and reduce the current the battery can deliver, until it can no longer turn the engine reliably.
Can I change the battery myself?
We do not recommend it. Battery acid and the explosive gases a battery gives off make the job hazardous, and on a car with a battery-management system a battery that is not correctly coded or is wrongly fitted can upset the charging system and the electronics.
Why does fitting the correct battery matter so much?
Many Volkswagens read the battery type and condition from a code and adjust their charging to suit. A battery that does not match is either overworked or left chronically undercharged, and fails early as a result.
How can I tell how old a battery is?
The manufacturing week and year are usually stamped into the housing near the negative terminal.
What happens to my old battery?
