An Autohaus Namibia technician servicing a Volkswagen air-conditioning system

Air Conditioning and Filters

Book a Service

Air conditioning keeps the cabin comfortable and clears misted glass, and the filters keep the air — and the engine — clean. Here is what the check covers and what each filter does.

Air Conditioning Check

In the Namibian heat a working air-conditioning system is not a luxury. The Air Conditioning Check confirms the system is cooling to the temperature it should, inspects the compressor, condenser and dryer, checks for leaks, and recharges the refrigerant and lubricant to the correct level.

  • Measured cooling output — not just “it feels cold”.
  • Visual check of the compressor, condenser and dryer for damage and leaks.
  • Refrigerant and compressor oil topped up to specification.

Filters and the Heat Pump for Your Volkswagen

Filters keep dust and pollen out of the cabin and keep the air, oil and fuel reaching the engine clean — which protects performance and engine life. The heat pump, on models that have one, warms the cabin efficiently.

FAQ on Air Conditioning and Filters

Why has my air conditioning stopped cooling well?

The usual causes are low refrigerant, a damaged condenser, a failing compressor or a leaking hose. Have the system checked rather than simply topped up — a leak will only come back.

Can I check the air-conditioning system myself?

No. It is a sealed, pressurised system containing refrigerant and needs workshop equipment to test, evacuate and recharge safely.

Can air conditioning be retrofitted to a car that does not have it?

Sometimes, but it is a substantial job involving the compressor, condenser, plumbing and controls, and must be carried out in a workshop.

Why does the pollen / combination filter need replacing?

Once it is clogged it can no longer clean the cabin air, and damp dirt trapped in it can grow mould and bacteria, which is what causes a musty smell from the vents.

Air Conditioning and Filter Services

Cabin not cooling as it should, or filters due for a change? Your Autohaus Namibia team will be happy to help.

Interior Filter

The active combination filter (pollen filter) cleans the air entering the cabin. It traps dust, pollen and soot and adsorbs unpleasant odours and gases before the air reaches you.

A blocked filter can no longer do its job, and damp dirt trapped in it can grow mould and bacteria — the usual cause of a musty smell from the vents.

Air Filter

The engine air filter cleans the air drawn into the engine so that only clean air reaches the combustion chambers. A clogged filter restricts airflow, which costs power and raises fuel consumption. Dusty gravel roads shorten its life.

Request Parts

Oil Filter

The oil filter keeps the circulating engine oil free of metal particles, carbon and dirt. It is replaced at every oil service — a blocked filter can raise fuel use, cut performance and eventually cause engine damage.

Request Parts

Diesel Fuel Filter

The diesel fuel filter screens water and dirt out of the fuel before it reaches the high-pressure injection system. It works like a sieve and gradually clogs, so it is replaced at the interval set for your model.

Request Parts

Diesel Particulate Filter

The diesel particulate filter captures soot from the exhaust and burns it off during regeneration. Mostly short trips can stop it regenerating properly — if a warning appears, a longer run at speed or a workshop regeneration is needed.

Heat Pump

On models fitted with one, the heat pump recovers waste heat — from the drivetrain and the outside air — and uses it to warm the cabin. It uses far less energy than a conventional electric heater, which on an electric model means less range lost to heating.
